An Unearthed Gem

Hello little crackers...

So I was digging through the racks at Streetside Records the other day and made a discovery that has me so excited I had to check in real quick and let everyone know about it.

For a mere $8.95 plus tax I picked up the double disc of T-Bone Walker's complete Imperial Sessions 1950-54. It is 52 tracks of pure bliss.

If you don't recognize the name you should know T-Bone was the King of Texas Swing Blues. He is generally recognized to be the first bluesman to use an amped acoustic guitar and the first to record electric blues.

No less than B.B. King and Stevie Ray Vaughn (pre-death one presumes) have cited T-Bone as a principal influence in their music.

So there you go. I now challenge each of you to go to your nearest record store and find a treasure of your own.

A Little of This and a Little of That

Hey kids,

Not a lot of time today, but it's been a while since I've posted so I'll toss a couple of thoughts at you.

I went on a float trip last weekend. It was a rollicking good time. I hope to have photos up on Facebook and MySpace within the next few days. I'd also like to announce tentative plans for a Labor Day Weekend Float for anyone interested.

The Lovely Brook and I will be attending the St. Louis Cardinals game versus the San Francisco Giants tomorrow evening. Reports of said experience will hopefully show up on this blog sometime next week.

My American heart is swelling with pride and sympathy indigestion for Joey Chestnutt, the new Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Champion of the World! Joey consumed a world record 66 hot dogs and buns in 12 minutes to dethrone the diminutive 6-time Japanese Champion Kobayashi. That mark bests Joey's previous world record mark of 59 dogs and buns and beats Kobayashi's record in the Nathan's contest which had stood at a paltry 53 and 3/4 dogs and buns.

Missouri Governor Matt Blunt has signed into law two bills that will, one, severely limit womens' access to abortion services and two, allow citizens to murder home invaders without any legal or civil repercussions. Yikes! Apparently it's not okay to end a birth after the 1st trimester but it is okay to end one after the 81st.

The Rio portion of the Live Earth concert has been cancelled due to concerns over lack of adequate police presence. At the same time former Vice President and one-time U.S. Presidential elect Al Gore is dealing with news his son has once again been arrested for drug possession. The younger Gore was reported to have been arrested with marijuana, Valium, Xanax, Vicodin and Adderall. Now most of those items are prescription drugs. Sadly for Al Gore III he himself is not prescribed any of them.

Not sure how these two events will effect any decision Mr. Gore might have in regards to running for President, but it would be my guess that should he choose to run each would be a non-issue.

Okay, there you go. Just a few things. I hope to be back with you next week for a re-cap of the Cards game and perhaps some float trip memories.
